The 2019 Project Red Ribbon Quinsippi Chapter of Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) campaign will kick off Monday, November 25 at 9:00 a.m. at Quincy City Hall.
The nationwide project is asking drivers to tie a red ribbon onto their vehicles to remind people not to drink and drive.
“People sometimes would almost brag about how they were able to get home after drinking, now they realize it’s no longer socially acceptable to be driving while intoxicated and they plan ahead, they have a friend give them a ride, they call a ride,” campaign spokesperson J.T. Dozier said.
Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore and Quincy Police Chief Robert Copley will speak on dangers on driving under the influence.
The project runs locally until January 1, 2019 and free ribbons are available at the Quincy Police Department, Quincy City Hall, Adams County Sheriff’s Department, area banks and churches.
In 2017, 1,097 people in Illinois, 330 people in Iowa and 930 in Missouri were killed in drunk driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
